Changing colours

Autumn Colours

I look forward to the beautiful changing colours of autumn.

As greens turn to reds, golds, browns and purples, the expanding colour palette opens a world of creative possibilities. With this in mind, I will continue creating pieces for my Cornish Tales, using the colours of each season where they suit the stories I am telling.

Inspiration

During a recent visit to Tate St Ives, two artworks caught my attention: Ben Nicholson’s Feb 28–53 (vertical seconds), an oil-on-canvas work created in 1953, and Margaret Mellis’s Number Thirty Five, made with house paint on wood in 1983. I was struck by the similarities in their shapes, colours and the feelings they evoked. I photographed both works, intending to create my own piece by merging elements from each. This approach to abstraction draws inspiration from other artists without copying them, using aspects of their work to create something new.

Challenge Time

My personal challenge is to complete this piece by the end of October. As you know, I usually develop my artwork from an essay, but this piece will begin with a short brief, allowing me to work more intuitively and reflect on how I feel once it is finished. So my plan is to post the finished piece on my social media pages on 31st October and use the finished piece for November blog post image, make sure you come back to take a look and follow on my social media pages.
