New Year, New Challenges

Celebrating the Promise of 2026

Happy New Year to you all.

As we step into 2026, I am determined to focus on the positives and seek out the good that this year has to offer, rather than dwelling on what might be lacking. This optimistic outlook is something I have always embraced; I firmly believe that the universe is abundant and generous, ready to reward us if we simply choose to believe and accept without demanding proof or constant reassurance.

Embracing Abundance in Every Form

Abundance is not limited to financial gains—it encompasses health, happiness, and the reassuring sense that all is well. Today serves as a poignant example: the funeral of a dearly loved member of our community drew a church full of mourners, with friends gathered even outside. Although it was a heartbreaking day for the family, the sun shone brightly, mirroring her radiant smile. For me, this sunlight was a symbol of abundance, offering comfort and making the day a little easier for those grieving. The large turnout was a testament to her deep connections and the love she inspired within our community. Life is precious and uncertain; none of us can count on tomorrow, so let us treat each day as a gift.

Looking Forward with Gratitude

I feel truly blessed to have so much to anticipate this year. My wonderful husband will be celebrating his 60th birthday, and we plan to mark this milestone with small celebrations each month, expressing gratitude for all he has achieved. These celebrations will vary, from intimate beach picnics for just the two of us to lively gatherings with family and friends. Having lost family members who did not get the chance to reach their 60th birthdays, we are acutely aware of how precious our time is. This awareness is not morbid but rather a reminder that our moments are finite, and we intend to cherish every day and remain thankful for everything we have and all that lies ahead.

Upcoming Art Events

In April, I am excited to announce an exhibition at The Castle in Bude, where I will be displaying new pieces alongside my good friend and fellow artist, Julie Wrathall—one of the UK’s most prominent Encaustic Artists. You can view her work at http://www.artyheaven.com. The exhibition, titled ‘Homecoming’, explores our shared journeys back to Cornwall and celebrates our affection for the county, its folklore, legends, history, and natural environment of land and sea.

Cornwall Open Studios 2026

I am delighted to be participating once again in Cornwall Open Studios 2026 this May. This event offers an opportunity to visit not only my studio but also those of over 200 artists across Cornwall. Based in North Cornwall, I highly recommend visiting the COS26 website, signing up as a visitor, and planning your road trip. There are several studios open in North Cornwall, so if you are considering a weekend getaway, why not combine it with the COS26 event http://www.cornwallopernstudios.co.uk Cornwall Open Studios runs from 23rd to 31st May 2026, with some studios open for the entire nine days and others welcoming visitors during the two long weekends at the start and end of the exhibition. My studio will be open from 23rd to 25th May and again from 29th to 31st May, 11am to 5pm.

So as this month seems to move faster than i’d like, I wish you all a healthy, happy and a year full of abundance for 2026 – Sammy xx
