Summer Stories: From Bridal Bliss to Abstract Art

Wedding Whirlwind – Wow, where did the summer go? I spent the past few months in full-on wedding mode, preparing for my middle son’s big day in September. I made three wedding cakes styled like giant french Fancies – yes , three! At one point, I wondered if my kitchen had turned into a mini patisserie, with sugar, flour and icing everywhere. I also collected and dried flowers from my garden for the confetti while my husband built a beautiful sweetie cart to have at the reception for the children and adults to enjoy. It was all full steam ahead, but seeinfg the joy on the bride and groom’s faces made every late night and sticky fingers worth it.

Back to the Easel – Now that the wedding whirlwind has passed, I am turning my focus back to my artwork.  What’s on my creative to-do list? I’m preparing new pieces for display at The Castle, Bude, next April, as part of my Homecoming series – all brand new work. Some of the pieces are already whispering stories on the canvas, and I can’t wait to see how the evolve.

Creative Sparks in Schools – I’ve put together three workshops for schools, aimed at children aged 11 – 18, to explore Abstract Art. The goal? To show them that abstract art is nothing to fear – just something to enjoy and understand how to create. Pieces do not need to be understood but just liked, or hopefully, loved. In fact during the time I spent as a school in Truro the students were very engaged and like the knowledge that there are no right or wrong ways when creating and the joy of having the freedom. One student asked if they could “accidentally” splash some paint everywhere. My kind of creativity! I truly believe that creativity should be available to all children, and when schools bring in artists from outside, the responses are so inspiring. Watching their imaginations spark is a joy every time.

Looking Ahead – So, here to an autumn filled with paintbrushes, canvases, and hopefully a little less sugar in the kitchen! There’s a lot on the horizon, and I cant wait to share more stories and artwork with you, as the rest of this year draws to a close, and we start to look ahead.
