Wowzers 28th November already, where has the last month gone!!
I have been involved in a lot of admin trying to get ahead of myself for 2025 but I know it won’t workout how it looks on paper. Yes I still put pen to paper to organise all the stuff floating about my brain. But to all intense and purposes I aim to follow my plan.
The coming year is bringing new opportunities for me to get involved in as well as tying up some loose ends. I am hoping that I will get an exhibition proposal accepted as well as getting my book on abstract art completed (though this is a labour of love, so I won’t mind if my penciled deadline slips).
This month I met up with some very warm and welcoming ladies from Makers Cornwall. Makers Cornwall are a group of artists, makers, and small creative businesses in Cornwall and there are hubs dotted around the county. I met up with Claire, artist and jewellery maker, who arranges the meet up in Launceston, Sally, artist, illustrator and maker who is the lead of Makers Cornwall, Sara and Abigail. It was so lovely to meet with other creatives in my new town. The Makers Cornwall had a very successful Christmas fair earlier this month and there is talk of an Art Fair in 2025 so hopefully I will be able to be part of that. So watch this space. You will have already seen that I am promoting COS 25, that is Cornwall Open Studios 2025. Creative Kernow, earlier this year said that they will no longer be hosting the event and so a group of artists, who were involved last year, have taken on the mammoth task of organising their own COS 25. Jeremy Sanders is the lead and has pulled together a group of artists around him to be the core team in arranging all that needs to be done. In such a short space of time they have designed an amazing website, which is easy to use as an artist and easy to navigate as a visitor. If you are an artist based in Cornwall why don’t you think about opening your studio for COS 25. The dates are Saturday 24th May to Sunday 1st June 2025, studios open daily 11am till 5pm. The more artists we can get all over Cornwall the better as it will make the artists trail so much more enjoyable for all our visitors. So what about your new artwork I hear you ask……Well I still have 10 pieces to complete but on the plus side is that all my essays are nearly finished. I write the same way that I paint, with three essays on the go at once!! I do have completed essays on other topics. Since moving to Cornwall in January of this year, the wealth of inspiration that is all around me how could I not create a series about coming to Cornwall. Watch this space, as they say.
Next year on a personal level my calendar is already filling up with welcomed guests, a wedding (which involves me making the wedding cake!!) and the continuing renovation of this beautiful Victorian school which we are very lucky to live in. As this month comes to a close, our minds shift to the Christmas celebrations with family and friends. I will be taking annual leave this year over the Christmas period and have kept my diary clear as there won’t be time to be in the studio. Though I can assure you that while I am out and about my camera will be clicking and my sketch pad will be used.
So with your lead up to Christmas, take it easy and don’t put too much pressure on yourself.
Take care and pop back next month, only if you have time – Sammy xxx
