What a soggy beginning to the Summer for many of us here in the UK, though saying that I have been lucky enough to enjoy more sunny weather down here in Cornwall than rain in the main. I am very blessed to be living where I am and hopefully one day to be able to share my studio with you.
So last month I said I would explain how you go about commissioning a piece of original artwork from me. Following is the process we will go through together.
- Call, message or email me to let me know what you are wanting.
- We will talk about your requirements and how you would like me to fulfill them. Please remember the more information you can give me the better I will be able to create. I will ask lots of questions to help you with this.
- It is always helpful to come with some sort of idea to what you are wanting. Are you wanting me to create a special story that you hold dear, or a place where memories are evoked? Do you want a celebration or a special event captured within the abstract piece?
- Once we both have more of an idea of what you are wanting me to create then we discuss the size of the piece and whether you want it framed or unframed and if it is going to be just acrylics or a mixed media piece, as this information will all affect the cost of the final piece
- So cost, this is all dependent on the above. A commissioned piece will cost more that the non commissioned pieces. I do ask for a 50% non refundable deposit from when you sign an agreement for me to commence work. The cost does not include shipping costs and these will be met by you but I am happy to organise the shipping of the work.
- I allow for 2 minor alterations as I go along in the process of completing your commissioned artwork and will send 3 update photographs during the process.
- Should you not want your final piece then the artwork will belong to me with the option to resell the finished piece.
- On accepting the final piece and me receiving the balance of the payment due, you will also receive a precis version of the completed essay.
The process is a lot easier then it may sound and I have completed a number of commissions that all the owners have been very happy with, especially reading the essay notes on how the piece was created and how they can see their personal stories being told.
So there we have it, how to commission a piece of original art from me.
See you next month – Sammy xxx
