June is bustin’ out all over…..

Isn’t that how the song goes?

I wanted, this month, to share a tip or two about choosing artwork for your home. So many people make the same mistake over and over again and i wanted to make sure you steer clear of it and not waste your money.

What is the mistake I hear you ask?

Not loving the piece. Yes you heard right, some people see a piece of art and either think one of two things; “That’s nice, it will match the sofa” or  “That will do for now to fill the space”. Then after a few months they decide that they don’t like it, its not the right fit or it no longer matches the soft furnishings! They then repeat the poor buying process all over again, spending more money on something else that isn’t going to fill them with joy every time they look at it.

So how do you rectify this error, this, now what is becoming an expensive mistake, over and over again?

It is very simple, CHOOSE A PIECE OF ARTWORK THAT YOU LOVE. The capitalization of those words are not me shouting at you, just emphasizing the point that Art should be something that you love, that will enrich your life.

If only they had gone in with the process to look for a piece of art that they loved and would love forever, no matter how many times they paint the wall or change the soft furnishings. A good piece of art will happily stand-alone without matching the soft furnishings. A brilliant piece of art will put your soft furnishings into the shade while filling your heart with never ending joy.

When looking for a piece of art for your home think about what you want to express with the artwork.

  • Do you want to express a side of your personality?
  • Do you want a piece that tells a story or even your story?
  • Do you want that ultimate “WoW” every time you and your visitors walk into the room?
  • Do you want to be able to continue the narrative of that piece of art, which in turn show you something new every time you look at it?

Asking these questions of yourself will provide you with more information to enable you to make the right choice the first time, saving you in making costly mistakes.

If you feel you need more help deciding then why not commission a piece that will be totally original and bespoke to you. It isn’t as expensive as you may think. You will have input into creating the piece with the artist.

In my next blog I will be talking about how you go about commissioning your own original piece of artwork,  but in the meantime if you are interested in me creating a commissioned piece for you then please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss your requirements.

Until next time – Sammy
